Mom's New Car

On Sunday, May 17, we were headed down to Santa Rosa for my cousin's talk. He recently returned from his mission. We got about an hour into the drive when the car suddenly revved. Luckily Cameron was driving because my mom would not have known what to do and I would have freaked out. I have been driving a car that threw a rod, and another one where the transmission went out. Neither experience do I want to repeat. Anyway, we got off the freeway safely and coasted just off the off ramp. We called for Sean to get the truck to come rescue us. We called Danee (Cameron's sister) to call and find a car trailer from U-Haul. Only one place was open and thankfully they had a trailer. So, we sat and waited. Waited. Waited. All the while, the temperature was rising. There was no shade. About three hours later a highway patrolman drove by and offered to drive us to a restaurant to get something to cool us off. He ended up staying with us because help (Sean) was close. He pushed to car onto the trailer and watched us head off. It was HOT. 106 Degrees hot! Ug. Long story shortened: mom's car lost its transmission and isn't worth fixing.

Saturday, May 23rd, we went to get mom a car. We went to a car lot where a friend is a sales manager. He hooked us up! Mom walked away with a 2009 Honda Civic LX. She loves the color and how smooth it runs. She also has keyless entry, power everything, an iPod jack, and Lo-Jack. She has never had a brand new car before. She asked the sales guy, "What do I do about a license plate?" I laughed and he looked at here, with a confused look, and replied, "Nothing. The DMV will send them to you." He then explained that the registration was stuck to her windshield. She was so excited. Here she is holding up one finger to signify her first new car. So fun!
