My brother went to Alaska on Sept. 8. He arrived safely and we miss him like crazy! We love you, David.
I just finished my third week of teaching first grade. I LOVE it! There are moments that I wish did not happen, but overall, it is amazing. I just got this new kid who did not attend kindergarten, though! This student cannot even hold a pencil! It has been frustrating.
Fitness progress - I am thrilled! I weighed, measured, and tested body fat % last Saturday. I had previously done all of this 6 weeks ago. Well, I did not loose ANY weight! UG! But, then I measured....I took 6 measurements. Chest, waist, hips, left bicep, left thigh, and left calf. Total inches lost from those 6 places is 10 1/4 inches!!!!! WAHOO!!! If I end up with a 28 inch waist, but don't loose weight, I'll still be happy. Fitness isn't only about weight. I also lost 0.4% body fat! Yes! Yes! Yes! Pretty soon, my body will realize that it doesn't need to hold onto that weight any more and it will start to come off so fast (so they say). Anyway, super excited and revved up for the next set of training sessions.

My Personal Trainer - Ariel
Today I met with Ariel. She does not look like this, but that was what I thought of when I found out her name.
We met for 30 minutes so she could learn about me, do a quick evaluation, and start making a plan. We talked about food intake, water intake, injuries, likes/dislikes, health issues, and other background information. She wanted to know what weight I would like to be and I said that I had no idea what was appropriate. She asked what was the last weight I felt good at. I told her that the lowest weight I remember was when I was sixteen and still wasn't feeling great about myself. She asked how much weight I would like to lose and I said, "100 pounds; I think." She said that would be a healthy weight for me.
She asked me if there is anything I enjoy doing. I said, "I don't even know." She asked if there is anything I don't enjoy. I said, "working out". She laughed and said ok.
She had me do as many push-ups as I could. It was ok to do them on my knees due to my back injury and I did 10.
She had me do as many crunches as possible in 60 seconds. She wanted me to go up high enough to get my shoulders off the ground, but I couldn't do that. So, she said just to go up as far as I could. I did 45, but don't know if they all counted. Then she watched me from three different angles do squats.
She wants me to do 30-45 minutes of cardio tomorrow. We meet for our first session on Wednesday at 8:30 for one hour. She wants me to do cardio daily. She also has her degree in nutrition, so we talked about that and she said that if I wanted we could spend one session doing a nutrition evaluation and class.

California Family Fitness
In trying to get healthy I have often thought, "I wish I had a pool; I wish I had a treadmill; I wish I had an elliptical trainer; etc." I despise the heat of summer so walking/running is out of the question. Yesterday, Cameron went to
and signed us both up! Even better; I got 10 sessions with a personal trainer! Yikes! It is exactly what I wanted and need, but I am NERVOUS!
