Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Theif

I wish I could have read this faster, but my schedule did not allow me to do so. It was entertaining and SO much better than the movie.

Sex/Romance: None
Language: Mild: loser, shut up, etc.
Violence/Gore: Moderate: Percy is trying to stop a war so naturally there is some violence. The Gods and Titans fighting is never a good thing. Percy sees his mom "killed" and there are other descriptions of violent scenes.

Recommendation: I originally thought this book was appropriate for an 8+ audience. After reading it, I would not recommend it to children under 13. I just don't think the violence is appropriate for the young ones. Sure you could talk about Greek Mythology and War and how that all fits in, but the reality is that this 12 year old character goes through some really intense things.
