We have been away!

Last week we were crazy! I had a Mathematics training to attend in Kelseyville. I takes about 2.5 hours to drive there from our home in Rocklin. We still had not gotten the keys to our Middletown apartment, so we drove. Monday and Tuesday we drove there and back! Wednesday we drove there and brought an air mattress and clothes just in case we could get our apartment. Fortunatly, we did. Our bodies were not happy driving five hours a day and me sitting in class for six! Anyway. Wednesday night I cried and I mean cried. I so do not want to be there! The "grocery store" is in the hardware store! I want to be home, teaching in my home area. This validated our desire to return home every weekend and holiday that we can! Rocklin is where our hearts and hopes are. This job in "clearlake" is only a stepping stone to returning back home as soon as possible. In the meantime, we put on happy faces and pretend our way through it. The training was good for me to get to meet some staff. I also got my classroom keys! Each day we had a math problem to solve in the morning. We had to show two different ways to solve each problem and explain why it worked that way. Here is one of my favorites.

Mom gave Mary and John some jelly beans. John said, "Hey, no fair, she has three times as many as I do." So, Mary gave three beans to John. He was still not happy because she now had twice as many as he did. How many more beans does Mary need to give John so they have equal amounts?

Figure it out? What about another way, can you think of one? Let me know what answer you got, if you found another way to solve it, and explain your method! :)

3 more beans... are you going to post the answer? I haven't given much thought to another way yet.

Oops nevermind on my answer... typed in the wrong number.

She needs to give him six more. That's if mary starts out with 27 and John with 9. 9 x 3 = 27. She gives him 3 now Mary has 24 and John has 12, which she still has twice what he has, so if she gives him 6 more then they both will have 18. Hope that's right. I probably won't have time to think about another way, maybe while I'm folding laundry.

I have no idea 'cause I stink at math. I couldn't even help my 3rd grader do her math by the end of the school year. Yikes.
Chloe is in pre-calculus this year, which just blows my mind! I never got past "Business Math" :)

Sorry it's stinky where you'll be teaching... like you said... you're working on getting a job closer to home and this experience will help you get there!
Good luck... so proud of you!

ANGEL!!!!! Mom (ann-Marie) just told me you're taking a job 2 HOURS AWAY! Are you still going to be here? We so need to hang out. I can't believe we've been here a month and I've only seen you one time, and that was at church. lol. What have you been up to? We're only 7 weeks and 2 days away! and can I just say I am SCARED out of my mind! lol. Well, hope you're having a splendid day! Love and hugs!

Wow Angel! I felt the same way when we moved out here! Then I explored a little more and found that it really isn't that bad. I still would rather be closer to my family in Loomis or Auburn, but we get to visit them enough for now. We'll have to get together a lot and I 'll show you where you can find the Safeway! Isn't that exciting! By the way, I like the Shooting for the Stars theme too! You're going to be great! See you soon!
